CARDIOPULMONARY SERVICES

Diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the heart and lungs.

The Cardiopulmonary unit is comprised of a group of experienced respiratory therapists who use the latest technology to help diagnose and treat disorders of the heart and lungs.  Patients with asthma, emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pneumonia, or any condition where a person's breathing is insufficient, receive a personalized plan of care based upon evidence based medicine.

The Cardiopulmonary staff assist physicians in the diagnosis of certain heart and lung disorders by performing technologically advanced tests such as: Electrocardiogram (EKG), Pulmonary Function Testing, 24 Hour Halter Monitoring, Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring, Exercise Treadmill Stress Testing, Pulse Oximetry, Capnography/Co2 detection, Nuclear Medicine Stress Testing, Arterial Blood Gas Analysis.

In the event of a catastrophic event or life threatening emergency, the cardiopulmonary department, in collaboration with hospital physicians employ a variety of life support techniques including mechanical ventilation and non-invasive ventilation.

Respiratory staff members of the Cardiopulmonary department attend all newborn deliveries to help make sure our babies are breathing effectively to get the best start possible with their lives.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program
The Pulmonary Rehabilitation program is designed to promote improvement in the quality of life of those with debilitating lung conditions.  Patients who participate, benefit by visiting the hospital less often, perform activities of daily living with less shortness of breath and more energy, and most importantly feel like they gain a degree of control back into their lives!

Achievement of the quality of life improvement is through a comprehensive education in the patients' disease process and associated factors, breathing retraining, and strength and endurance training.

The program consists of Physician Referral, Assessment, Education, Goal Tracking and a Plan of Care is developed.

At each hour long appointment, the patient will receive education on a variety of pertinent topics, and perform prescribed exercise via treadmill, stair-stepper, stationary bike or ergometer.

The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program can be up to 12 weeks in duration with sessions 2-3 times per week..  Patient progress toward program goals are assessed and reviewed by the medical director and physician 3 times during the program.

Our Mission:  "To provide our patients with improved functional capacity and disease-coping skills leading to improvement in quality of life."
