Complete Care of the Orthopedic Surgery Patient

Mercy Mt. Shasta has one of the leading orthopedic programs in Northern California, with some of the most renowned specialists in hip, knee, back and spine surgery, including Todd Guthrie, MD, Glen O'Sullivan, MD and Tom Daniel M.D.

Beginning with a pre-surgery orientation for orthopedic patients and their support person, various aspects of what to expect before, during and after surgery are explained.  Our medical professionals review nutritional needs, nursing care, respiratory therapy services, medications, spiritual care requests, physical therapy treatments, discharge planning, and how to prepare for returning home to recuperate.

We also pre-register orthopedic patients, perform required lab tests, and introduce them to many members of our staff.  Patients receive their own personalized healthcare guidebook specific to their procedure.  Then on the day of surgery, patients arrive with a fuller understanding of their procedure and their recovery process.

If you would like further information please call Mercy Mt. Shasta's Orthopedic Service Line at (530) 926-7144.

*Doctors caring for patients in the Hospital are independent providers of medical care and are not employees or agents of the Hospital.  These doctors include clinic physicians, surgeons, emergency room doctors, hospitalists, radiologists, pathologists, anethesiologists and intensive care doctors.  The doctors are also responsible for giving you information about the risks, benefits, and alternative kinds of treatment so that you can make an informed decison about the Patient's care.  The Hospital's nurses and staff are responsible for carrying out the instructions of the doctor(s).  You will receive a separate bill from the doctors for their services.
