How Can We Be Of Service?
Patient Rooms
You hospital room has been planned for efficient medical and nursing care in a comfortable environment. Rooms are assigned based on your physician’s orders and the kind of medical care you need and room availability.
Telephone
All inpatient rooms are equipped with a direct dial telephone. Your family and friends can call (530) 926-6111 and ask the hospital operator to ring your room. All calls within the Northern California service area are free of charge to our patients. Cell phone service is also available inside the hospital.
Television
Color televisions with remotes are included at no charge in every patient room.
Newspaper and Flower Delivery
The Mt. Shasta Herald, our local newspaper, is delivered each Wednesday morning at no charge to the patient. Our Auxiliary Gift Shop located in the main lobby has fresh flowers for purchase and can be delivered to your loved one. The Gift Shop is open Monday – Friday 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Major credit cards are accepted. Please note, fresh flowers are not allowed in the Intensive Care Unit.
Meals
Mercy Medical Center Mt. Shasta makes every effort to provide delicious and nutritious meals that meet your physician’s orders, including special diets. Typically, Breakfast is served between 8:00 – 8:30 am, Lunch 11:00 – 11:30 am, Dinner 5:00 – 5:30 pm. We make available guest trays to spouses and family members for a nominal fee, if they desire. Patients may make special food requests through their nurse and the Nutrition Services Department will make every effort to honor it.
Interpreters
If you need an interpreter, please ask your nurse or other hospital staff. A specialized phone system is available to allow interpretation for any language needed. In addition, many Mercy Medical Center staff members are certified interpreters. All interpreter services are available free of charge.
Calling Your Nurse
When calling your nurse, please press the call button located on a cord attached to your bed. The nurses station will be alerted that you need assistance and a nurse will come to your room and assist you.
Spiritual Care Services
The healing of the whole person physically, psychologically and spiritually is important to us. A chaplain is available to minister to any spiritual concerns you may have. A chaplain will visit you each morning of your inpatient stay. Please notify your nurse if you wish to talk to one of our chaplains at any other time of the day. Additionally, our Blessed Sacrament Chapel is available to you 24 hours a day.
Valuables
Mercy Medical Center Mt. Shasta cannot assume responsibility for lost items that are not deposited in our safe. Should you arrive with items of value, please contact your nurse who will register them with the Nursing Supervisor and deposit them in our safe during your stay. If your arrival to our hospital is unexpected, we may ask that an accompanying loved one take your items of value with them for safekeeping.
Durable Power of Attorney for Healthcare
If you already have a DPAHC, please bring a copy with you. During your stay, you may ask for a Durable Power of Attorney for Healthcare form; please ask your nurse and assistance with the form will be provided.
What To Bring
Please bring only the minimal essentials with you. If you are anticipating an overnight stay, you may bring personal toiletries and containers for storing your health aides such as eyeglasses, hearing devices etc. Please limit any extra clothing to a comfortable dressing gown or pajamas, a robe and slippers. Also, we recommend that you bring any health related written information with you such as a list of medication, supplements and herbs you may be taking as well as any physician prescribed information.
What Not To Bring
Please do not bring any unnecessary valuables or large sums of money. Please do not bring actual medications you are currently taking unless instructed to do so by your physician.
